DEVIL'S BACKBONE
Length: 4.5 miles
Devil's Backbone is a one-way, expert only trail that begins at the westernmost section of Copperhead and traverses the highest ridge on the ranch. Designated an "extreme" trail, it snakes up and down the ridge for a total of nine ascents and descents, equalling over two thousand five hundred feet of combined climbing. Most of the downhills are long and fast. The Backbone ends at the easternmost edge of the ridge on the final downhill of Horseshoe.
Designed and built by Tony Boone and Tia and Billy Hutson, the Devil's Backbone is considered by many as "the toughest trail in Texas". It traverses laterally through the heavily wooded slopes of the ridge though some sections cross the flats along the ridge's peak.
